30 Arrested For Inciting Monday Violence - Police

Harare, July 04, 2016 - POLICE in have arrested 30 people who allegedly incited the violence that rocked Harare’s satellite town of Ruwa and Epworth on Monday morning.

This was revealed by police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba during a press briefing Monday afternoon.

Charamba said there were criminal elements who had joined the demonstrations which started with commuter transport operators protesting continued harassment by police and numerous roadblocks in Harare.

The police chief spokesperson was adamant roadblocks were necessary for public safety and traffic enforcement.

Following the violence, Charamba said, police had deployed more officers in trouble spots of Epworth in efforts to contain a situation which had turned volatile.

 

Charamba said police had intelligence on the identities of some known criminal elements who were behind the unrest.
