Harare, February 12, 2017 - THE Temba Mliswa chaired Mines and Energy committee is this Monday set to grill Harare businessman Wicknell Chivayo over the abortive Gwanda Solar Power project awarded to his company by former Energy and Power Development Minister Samuel Undenge.

This is according to a schedule of committee meetings set to be held by MPs this week.

Among the meetings scheduled for this Monday is one by the Mines and Energy committee which is expected to receive “oral evidence from Intratek Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd and Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) on the national solar power project”.

Mliswa also confirmed this in a tweet on Sunday.

“Wicknell Chivayo will be appearing before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Mines & Energy tomorrow, Monday 12th February 2018 at 10:00hrs. Parliament will always exercise its role of oversight without fear or favour,” he said.

In November last year, the same committee took Undenge to task over the $5 million upfront payment his ministry paid Chivayo before the latter’s company could commence duty.

The tender was awarded in October 2015 in respect of the $202 million 100MW project which remains in limbo to date.

Undenge admitted that the project had stalled and had been taken over by the Zimbabwe Power Company.

Chivayo is among several of former President Robert Mugabe’s allies who are being targeted for investigations over acts of corruption.

Reports last month linked the under-fire businessman to an arrest plot by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
