Harare, April 15, 2018 - ZIMBABWE’s opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has vowed to seize former President Robert Mugabe’s multiple farms in keeping with the country’s one man, one farm policy which the ousted leader violated.

Mugabe, who was pressured to give up his job by the military November last year, was last month said to be owner of 21 commercial farms.

It also emerged the leader whose government expropriated tracts of farmland previously in the hands of white owners also went against his public vows for locals to seize every piece of land which was still in the hands of whites.

Mugabe was reportedly leasing some of his excess land to whites.

Despite the public outcry that has followed the reports of his giant land empire, nothing has been done to remedy the situation.

But the EFF, led by United Kingdom based Innocent Ndibali, has vowed to lead a citizen push to seize Mugabe’s multiple farms.

“We as EFF are calling on the freedom fighters, traditional leaders and landless citizens to join us as we are lobbying to take over 20 of 21 Mr Mugabe’s farms,” Ndibali said in a statement.

“We are not apologetic on this and it is not political but a fair practise as it addresses the past imbalances. Our fathers did not fight and die for one man to have 21 farms.

“Our fathers did not fight and died to have other races displaced but to uplift every citizen into same living standards.”

The EFF leader vowed to force the current government to redistribute those 20 farms to landless locals.

“If they delay we will urge our members and all landless masses to invade those 20 farms as a way of correcting imbalances implemented by Mr Mugabe.

“We will be soon petitioning the government on this matter. Land must not be leased or fronted by proxies but be given to our people not on racial, tribal or political lines.

“We call upon every citizen with information on multiple farms ownership direct or indirect to come forward.”

EFF is a radical, leftist, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist movement with an internationalist outlook anchored by popular grassroots formations and struggles.
