Fearing a low turnout, organisers of the Bob 88 Super Cup have included popular Harare outfit Dynamos on their menu in order to draw a large crowd at the Bob 88 Super Cup final at Rufaro Stadium on February 26.

Dynamos will now play Motor Action in a curtain raiser to the Cup final and sources revealed that the decision was reached after the realisation that the final would attract a small crowd due to the non-availability of a crowd puller.

Dynamos, Highlanders, and to a lesser extent CAPS United are viewed as the crowd pullers of Zimbabwean football and the cup final will pit none of the three top clubs but FC Platinum and Hwange.

Dynamos were not part of the initial proceedings on the day of the cup final, but co-ordinator of the tournament Stan Kasukuwere has revealed that they have roped in Dynamos to play in the third and fourth place play off against the Mighty Bulls.

Although Kasukuwere denied that this was a way of attracting a large crowd because of Dynamos’ popularity, the former Dynamos vice chairman and secretary said the decision was aimed at giving soccer fans more entertainment on the day since ‘we will be celebrating the president’s birthday.’

The Cup final will be held a day after the official presidential birthday celebrations.

Coincidentally, Dynamos and the Mighty Bulls will also meet a few weeks later in the NetOne Charity Shield.

Traditionally, it has been proved that cup finals pitting less popular teams do not attract huge a crowds and a few years back Banc ABC had to offer free T-Shirts and other prizes to lure a big crowd at the Banc ABC Cup final pitting the now defunct Lengthens and Shooting Stars.

The Bob 88 Super Cup is in its second year of existence. Last year, the tournament featured Dynamos and CAPS United with De Mbare coming out tops. Dynamos took home $25 000 for their effort while CAPS United were rewarded with $15 000.

President Mugabe then personally gave the two participating teams’ $30 000 each which they received in cash at the match venue.

Kasukuwere, however, could not be drawn into revealing this year's prize money saying they are still working on that adding that they are waiting for all their sponsors to fulfill their promises.
