Warriors’ midfielder Willard Katsande has crossed the Limpopo to join the South African ABSA Premier Soccer League. However, the 23-year old has opted to join Ajax Cape Town ahead of champions Supersport which had expressed an interest in his services. Katsande spent a week at Supersport last month and impressed the reigning champions during his short stint.

But, in a surprise move, the Mutare –born player, signed for Ajax joining fellow Zimbabweans Tafadzwa Rusike and Khama Billiart. He becomes the 18th player to ply his trade down South.

The Warriors player has signed a three year contract with the Cape Town based side.

The former Gunners anchorman impressed at Ajax after making an impression during a friendly match against fellow PSL side, Golden Arrows.

Katsande is essentially a defensive midfielder who uses his physique to good effect in destroying opposition attacks and also has a good touch on the ball.

He has previously played for lower division clubs in his home town of Mutare such as  Frontier Steel, Feruka and Highway.

Katsande impressed the technical team at Supersport and a deal was expected to have been penned until the surprise move to Ajax.

He is one of the players called by national soccer team caretaker coach Norman Mapeza to take part in the country’s campaign for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

Interviewed after his trials at Supersport Katsande was this week upbeat about his chances of making a dream move into the cash-rich ABSA PSL saying: “I am happy to say they were really impressed with my performance. In fact they openly confessed their interest in sealing a deal but I am told through my agent, that we just have to wait for a week before they make up their mind.”
