Harare, September 13, 2010 - Former Blackpool director Ginger James Chinguwa has turned politician in his Mhondoro rural home.

Chinguwa is now a ward councillor after qutting Harare city life.

Chinguwa, who is  on a Zanu (PF) ticket said his aim was to become the Member of Parliament for the Mhondoro Ngezi constituency.

The sitting Member of Parliament for the constituency is Bright Matonga also of Zanu (PF) and a former Deputy Minister of Information and Publicity.

If Chinguwa succeeds in his endevour he will follow in the footstepts of Leo Mugabe who after leaving football, where he was Zifa chairman, was elected a Member of Parliament and served one term in the house.

Chinguwa is one of the nine Blackpool directors who in 1995 led the club to the semi finals of the then African Cup of Winners Cup, now the Caf Confederations Cup. By doing that Blackpool became the first Zimbabwean club to reach that stage of the competition.

That record was broken by Dynamos who in 1998 reached the final of the Caf Champions League and ten years later also reached the semi finals of Africa's biggest and richest club football competition.

Some of the directors who worked with Chinguwa at Blackpool include Ronnie Chihota, Ben Muchedzi, Joe Musenda, Joel Salifu, and Lecturer Mpala. They later sold the club  to Eric Rosen who renamed it Motor Action.

Motor Action currently lead the 16 team Premier Soccer League table and are favoured to win their first ever league title.
