Harare, July 04, 2016 – FORMER Zanu PF youth activist and now leader of the newly formed opposition VIVA Zimbabwe, Acie Lumumba was on Monday afternoon arrested for insulting President Robert Mugabe.
Lumumba, also known as William Mutumanje, went into hiding soon after he shocked all and sundry when he used the ‘F’ in insulting President Mugabe.
“You have never really seen Zimbabweans angry so here is the red line, Mr President Robert Gabriel Mugabe ‘f…you’, I have drawn the line…My name is Lumumba Lumumba Lumumba; I have said it three times and I say come get me,” Lumumba said during the launch of his party in Harare last Thursday.
Following his shock utterances, the former StarFM presenter became a wanted man, with police saying they wanted to question him for the offence.
He however handed himself over to police at Harare Central on Monday afternoon.
It was not immediately clear if Lumumba was formally charged for the offence.
If police could proceed with pressing any charges against the cheeky politician and businessman, Lumumba was likely to be charged with for undermining the President as defined in Section 33 (2) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
