Masvingo Rural District Council (RDC) recently approved that the Anglican Church can adopt and upgrade Gundura Secondary into a boarding school.
According to the Social Services Committee minutes dated May 30, 2019, the proposal was moved by Ward four Councillor, Pio Maguvaza on behalf of the community following the meeting that was held by the council and the community.
The Anglican Church proposed to become the accountable authority of Gundura Secondary School.
The project was once proposed by the council and the community aimed at developing the Mashava area through attracting pupils from across the country and also serving the local community.
The council agreed that the Anglican Church needs to be supervised and monitored if it has the capacity to carry out such a big project.
“The Anglican Church should provide a time framed action plan which should be monitored and if they fail, the school be repossessed,” reads part of the resolution.
The council noted with concern the dwindling enrolment at Gundura Secondary School and an upgrade will avoid the withdrawal of teachers by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education due to impracticality.
