Harare , August 27, 2013- South African national team coach Gordon Igesund
has named a strong squad for the September 10 international friendly match against
Zimbabwe’s Warriors which will be played at a venue still to be

friendly match against Zimbabwe that will come three days after the
World Cup qualifier.
All the top players in the South African Premiership among them Kaiser
Chiefs’ goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, his teammates Sphiwe Tshabalala,
Reneilwe Letsholonyane, and Bernard Parker are all part of the squad.
So too is Orlando Pirates’ highly rated striker Kermit Erasmus who
will miss the Bucs’ Caf Champions League engagement as he is not
registered to play in that tournament.
Also included is Bongani Zungu, and Hlompho Kekana of Mamelodi
Sundwons, Lerato Tshabangu of Moroka Swallows, Lebogang Manyama of
Ajax Cape Town as well as David Mathebula, and Thuso Phala of
The Premier Soccer League has suspended all matches in South Africa to
pave way for the Zimbabwe friendly.
Just like the Warriors, the Bafana Bafana are using the Zimbabwean
friendly to fine tune their team ahead of the African Nations
Championships which they will host starting from January 11.
As hosts, South Africa are desperate to avoid a first round
elimination as that would take the gloss off the tournament hence the
preparations they are undertaking.
Ian Gorowa’s Zimbabwean side qualified for the 16 team football
festival after overcoming Zambia 1-0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium
over the weekend. The two teams had played a goalless draw in the
first leg at Rufaro Stadium two weeks ago.
