Gweru, November 24, 2016 – A local bank, FBC Bank has donated 10 he-goats to a Gweru based pensioners’ organisation as part of helping them in self help projects.
The goats, which were donated to Zimbabwe National Government Pensioners Organisation (ZNGPO), are valued at $150 each.
ZNGPO chairperson, Kedmon Dube Ntsiane said most pensioners were failing to sustain their lives through the little monthly allowances they were getting hence the need for entrepreneurial ventures.
“The money that we get as pensioners should be able to cater for the needs of our families but this is not the case through the little allowances we are getting,” Ntsiane said at the recent donation.
He said since the organisation started 20 years ago they have been looking for partners to help them in their projects.
In recent years, goat production has become popular with farmers with ready markets in countries in the Middle East and the local Muslim community.
ZNGPO was established in 1996 as the Midlands Pensioners Association before it was turned into a national organisation.
