Harare, January 6,2014 – Lovemore Madhuku’s new political formation, the National Constitutional Assembly, yesterday said its members were attacked in Mbare allegedly by Zanu PF activists while putting up posters for the party candidate Takura Gadzira.

The NCA is contesting three wards in Harare’s Sunningdale ward 12 and Zaka East Ward 32.

Madock Chivasa, the NCA spokesman, allegedly the ZANU PF activists in Mbare were taking instructions from their candidate Maureen Nyemba.

Chivasa said as a result of ‘this ruthless and barbaric attack” three NCA members were seriously injured and were battling for their lives at Avenues hospital where they are currently admitted.

He named the injured members are Taurai Maravanyika, Patson Mangwiro and Olibeletsi Noko.

“The matter was reported yesterday at Stodart police station and recorded as CRB 1922083.As NCA we continue to hope that the police will arrest Mrs Maureen Nyemba and her team for political violence,” said Chivasa.

“We urge ZANU PF to be civilized and allow people the freedom to campaign for their candidates in the council by elections scheduled for 25 January in Sunningdale, Zaka and Karoi. It’s the NCA right to campaign for the party candidates and we are shocked that ZANU PF continues to pay lip service to the idea of ensuring that there is peace and stability when they are busy using violence to intimidate innocent citizens exercising their freedoms as clearly enshrined and protected in the constitution,” he said.

Nyemba refused to comment when contacted yesterday. Zanu PF spokesman Rugare Gumbo was not picking up his phone yesterday.

But Chivasa urged all NCA members and supporters to be peaceful as they campaign for the party candidates Gadzira in Sunningdale Constituency Ward 12, Mr Enock Chikamhi Zaka East Ward 32.
