Harare, May 13, 2014-The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has completed the examination of all licence applications for the provision of local commercial and radio broadcasting services.
In a statement, BAZ CEO, Mr Obert Muganyura said they received 21 applications from nine out of the 25 areas invited for.
He said out of these 21 applications, the authority has shortlisted 18 applicants who will be subjected to public hearings to determine their suitability to be licenced as required in terms of the Broadcasting Services Act (BSA) Chapter 12:06.
The authority will formally advise all applicants of the outcome of the short-listing process and is now preparing to conduct the public hearings.
Mr Muganyura said the public and the short-listed applicants will be advised of the dates, time and venues of the public hearings through written and published notices.
The authority intends to complete the licencing process by the end of July 2014.
