“Traffic police from Chegutu are looking for (Tendai) Biti in connection with an accident which occurred in March 2010. They have failed several times to serve him with the summons for him to come to court,” said a court officer based in Chegutu.
Biti’s 4X4 Toyota Hilux was described as “a total wreck” after it collided with a 30 tonne truck carrying coal about 200 metres from the Mupfure river bridge along the Harare-Chegutu highway. No one was injured.
Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena said he will check the latest position on the investigations which he believed were done some time.
After the accident, in which no one died, the MDC-T senior official was briefly detained at Chegutu Hospital before being transferred to a private clinic in Harare for observations.
Information and Communication technology Minister Nelson Chamisa appeared in court last year on similar allegations involving an accident in January 2009, along Sam Nujoma Street, which cased “minor damages” to two vehicles.
