Chikurubi Inmates Release Album On Life Experiences,Hope
Sixteen Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison inmates going under the name “The Salvation Of Men” have released their debut album titled ‘Rega Kumhanya’ that talks about their life experiences.
The album is accompanied by a DVD album of the same title.
The release of the album marks an important chapter in the history of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) on its thrust and efforts towards offender rehabilitation and reintegration.
Band member Melusi Mkwananzi said most of the songs on the album talk about their life experiences before they were incarcerated whilst others give hope to other inmates who are serving long sentences at the prison.
Tracks on the album include Tinokukwazisayi Mhoroi, Rudo Rwajesu, Mambo Ndiani, Muchaziva Chokwadi and Ndirichisikwa.
ZPCS Chikurubi officer-in-charge Assistant Commissioner Ernest Pambayi said the album is a product of hard work and commitment of the 16-member choir and the release come at a time when ZPCS is trying to protect society from criminal elements through the incarceration, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders back to society.
The album was produced by Clive Mono Mukundu and was sponsored by the Faith Ministries church who worked hand in hand with the ZPCS.
Meanwhile, ZPCS Deputy Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu says the ZPCS will not tire in coming up with programmes to rehabilitate and reintegrate offenders.
Deputy Commissioner General Chihobvu said a number of programmes for inmates such as music, tailoring, plumbing, welding and carpentry are giving hope to prisoners and equipping them with skills for life outside prison.
He said peace and development can only be achieved once inmates are equipped with necessary knowledge and skills that they can use to sustain their lives and families upon discharge from prison institutions.
