Gweru, November 04, 2016 – ZANU PF youth league secretary, Kudzanai Chipanga on Wednesday declared acting provincial youth chairman, Prosper Machando as the substantive head of the youths in Midlands province.
Machando takes over from Edmore Samambwa who was fired from the ruling party in March this year.
Samambwa was among seven Zanu PF provincial youth chairmen who were expelled from the party on charges of “gross indiscipline and misconduct.”
Chipanga said Machando had shown competence in his capacity as acting provincial chairman hence the elevation.
“I want to announce to you that from today (Wednesday) onwards, Machando is no longer acting provincial chairman but is now substantive,” Chipanga told ruling party youths on Wednesday at a meeting in Gweru.
Chipanga said youths should desist from forming parallel structures in the province adding that anything to do with youths was supposed to go through Machando.
The province is a hot bed of factionalism with many party members and supporters aligned to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa although there is a clique supporting the G40 faction, which is pushing for the ascendancy of first lady Grace Mugabe to the presidency.
“People are not disallowed to dream while walking but they should know that there is one centre of power in Zanu PF and that is President Robert Mugabe,” said Chipanga during the meeting.
“We should do away with parallel structures in this province and work as one team in building and strengthening the party.”
