Dabengwa's Threat To Exhume Remains Of Zapu War Heroes

Dabengwa who was the Zipra army intelligence chief during the war for independence made the threat when he addressed hundreds of mourners at the funeral service of the struggle heroine Thenjiwe Lesabe.Lesabe, who was a member of Zapu Council of Elders died in the city last week after a long illness.Dabengwa said nothing can stop the party from exhuming the remains of its heroes including those of Joshua Nkomo and his deputy in Zapu, Joseph Msika.

The two are buried at the national heroes acre in Harare.The Zapu leader received a thunderous applause from the audience when he spoke about exhuming Nkomo and other Zapu leaders’ remains.Zanu (PF) political bureau also came under fire for denying Lesabe a national heroine status on the grounds that she died a member of Zapu after defecting from the former ruling party in 2009.

Lesabe,s family revealed that before she died, she told them she did not want to be buried at the heroes acre in Harare.The late Zapu secretary-general Welshman Mabhena also snubbed the national heroes site.
