Residents said the power utility, the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), should have switched off people after the festive period.
Rosemary Makunere of Southview told Radio VOP that they were switched off on Friday. “We are likely to have a dark Christmas and New Year as ZESA is asking us to pay at least half of what we owe and US$ 10 reconnection fee.”
A Mkoba 20 resident Tinashe Mpofu said their problems had been worsened by the rains. He said he could not use firewood because most of the time they were wet because of the rains.
“We have been caught unaware. We can’t raise the money because we do not earn much.”
However others dismissed the disconnections saying Zesa is always switching its customers off as part of the load shedding.
