HARARE, August 24, 2013 – Zanu-PF politburo member,ex-freedom fighter and former member of Zanu’s Dare reChimurenga Kumbirai Manyika Kangai has died. He was 75.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo confirmed the death on Saturday. Mourners are reportedly gathered at his house in Borrowdale, Harare.
Kangai was the former Minister of Agriculture. During his tenure as the first Minister of Labour and Social Welfare in the 1980s he was embroiled in the Samson Bernard Mashata Paweni scandal involving transportation of grain. He was the Zanu-PF secretary for external affairs and served as a member of parliament for Buhera from 1980 to 2008.
Kangai’s death on today comes soon after the death’s of former Treasurer-General of Zanu(PF) who also served as Finance, Defence and National Supplies minister Enos Mzombi Nkala and retired air commodore Mike Karakadzai the general manager of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) who have been both declared national heroes by their party’s politburo.
