Extortion Case: Gomwe Granted $1000 Bail

Suspended Zanu (PF) Harare province youth chairman Godwin Gomwe, who is facing extortion allegations, has been granted US$1 000 bail by the High Court.

Gomwe who once had a serious fallout with the late Harare provincial chairman Amos Midzi, later reconciled by first lady Grace Mugabe, is being charged together with other six party members.

In granting bail, Justice Garainesu Mawadze said there is no basis to refuse bail as the state has not yet concluded its investigations.

He further said if the accused had interfered with justice before, he would have been arrested at the time.

Gomwe’s bail conditions will include reporting at Budiriro police station every Friday, not to interfere with the state witnesses, not to visit housing consortium offices or where they are carrying out development activities and to surrender his passport with the clerk of court.

Gomwe and six other Zanu (PF) party officials have been accused of extortion using Grace Mugabe’s name.

The six are Muchineripi Mupindu, Fidelis Ndaradza, Haruwandi Munyawiri, Josephine Hadziendi, Norah Torongo and Humpfrey Madenyika and they are expected to know their fate by Friday
