Pagels is in camp with with the Mighty Warriors preparing for Sunday All Africa Games qualifier against Zambia set for Rufaro Stadium.
Zimbabwe Football Association Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Mashingaidze confirmed Pagels had been hired to give technical assistance to the team while Rosemary Mugadza will remain the head coach with the final say on team selection.
The match against Zambia is the Mighty Warriors first serious international engament in three years as Zifa had withdrawn the team from international participation citing lack of funds.
Although Zifa received the annual Fifa grant part of which was specifically for women’s football, a Fifa audit into the funds revealed that the money was diverted to other uses.
However, there has been a renewed vigor to revive women’s football of late. The Mighty Warriors have been in camp for close to a month and have also played two friendly matches against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in preparation for the Zambian encounter.
