Former ZBC Weather Man Shines On eTV

With a brand new name and grooming, Joel Chabata now known as Joe Guy on ETV seems to be enjoying every inch of his time in front of the 40 million plus South Africans and millions others who watch ETV on
satellite.

Chabata who at one time managed the weather forecast office in Harare is one of the three weather forecasters on ETV. He is based at ETV’s Cape Town studio in Parow.

His brief is to analyse South African weather systems and keep the country’s citizens informed on these.

He used to do this at ZBC in the 1990s before he moved to South Africa to seek greener pastures.

Chabata grew up in Harare and went to school in Norton at Sandringham High School where he did well in mathematics and science subjects.

After school he studied Physics at the University of Zimbabwe graduating in 1995. Thereafter he taught maths before moving to Melbourne, Australia where he studied for a diploma in meteorology.

He returned to Zimbabwe and took up a job at the Metrological office in Harare where he was in charge of managing the main forecasting office and presenting weather reports on ZBC TV.

In 2004 he left for Johannesburg where he first taught mathematics and science at a city high school before he landed his current job at ETV in 2009.
