Gay Rights Activist Case Postponed For The Sixth Time

Detective constable, Trust Gomo failed to attend the beginning of Chademana’s trial after police raided GALZ offices and allegedly found a booklet and a video disc containing pornographic material.

Magistrate Archie Wochiunga further remanded Chademana to July 26.

Chademana is charged together with fellow GALZ employee, Ignatius Muhambi whose trial has already begun at the magistrate’s court.

Lawyer, Jeremiah Bamu who is representing Chademana told the court that ‘this is the sixth time ‘ the prosecution department has failed to resume the trial of the gay rights activist saying on July 26 the defence will apply for refusal of further remand if the state witnesses fail to attend court.

“We ask to place this on record that this is the sixth time that the state has postponed this case. We shall challenge the further postment on remand of my client if the state fails to resume trial,” Bamu said.

Muhambi has already pleaded not guilty in his case but Chademana is still to plead.

A charge of insulting President Robert Mugabe was struck off the charge sheet when the trial for Muhambi resumed.
