Green Bombers Wade Into Zanu PF succession Wars, Blast Chipanga

Harare, February 26, 2016 – ZANU PF youths aligned to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s faction on Thursday blasted the party’s secretary for youths Kudzanai Chipanga for allegedly threatening war veterans.

Zanu PF is currently embroiled in internal fights for control of the party ahead of the highly anticipated exit of the 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe from the helm of both the party and national presidency.

Two distinct camps have emerged in the race with the so-nicknamed Team Lacoste led by Mnangagwa and another – Generation 40 – rooting for the First Lady, Grace Mugabe.

Chipanga, who is believed to be aligned to the G40, in the past week made statements to the effect that “youths would deal with war veterans” who wanted to demonstrate against the removal of their chairperson Christopher Mutsvangwa.

Mutsvangwa, who is also war veterans minister, was ousted in a vote of no confidence by a group led by Mandi Chimene but went on to secure a court order barring the Manicaland provincial affairs minister from interfering with the organisation’s business.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Zanu PF headquarters, a group of National Youth Service graduates, derisively known as the Green Bombers, vowed Thursday to deal with Chipanga claiming he was a murderer.

“How crooks in the likes of Chipanga Kudzanai who had the blood of a war veteran in his hands, whom he killed with his thugs can only this day work up and say he is defending the First Family,” said Abson Madusise, who is secretary general with the National Youth Service Graduates Association.

Madusise further said Chipanga acted like former Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa, who was ousted last year with several party bigwigs for allegedly sponsoring a plot to dethrone President Mugabe.

“Where are his morals derived from when his mentor Didymus Mutasa who has the blood of many in his hands; whom we know of his violent nature has a natural hatred of our symbolic leader Cde Robert Mugabe,” he said.

National Youth Service commander Kelvin Murapa said as an organisation, they did not trust the Zanu PF MP for Makoni West.

“Whilst Didymus Mutasa is with the People First project, how do we trust Kudzi Chipanga who is an admirer of his mentor who beneficiated him with a house located at house at number 135 Nyanga Drive in Rusape be of good standing to defend our most revered liberator?” he said.

“It has come to our attention that they should stop forthwith to masquerade as spokespersons and defenders of the First Family when in actual fact, Kudzanai Chipanga, a defacto chairman of the so called People First Youth League and Innocent Hamandishe as its Secretary for Administration.”

“Their hatred for the war veterans is well documented on the wall for everyone to see. Their hatred is compounded by what they perceive as the role war veterans played in the ouster of Joice Mujuru from Zanu PF.”

Another group known as the Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association led by Innocent Mhlanga advised Chipanga to read ZIMASSET instead of attacking war veterans.

“We advise Chipanga that he could have spent such valuable time reading and understanding ZIMASSET and perhaps help in its implementation than threatening war veterans,” said Mhlanga.
