The money has already been raised by church members in all the branches throughout the country.
“We have received an application from Pastor Guti to build a university in Zimbabwe,” an official from the Higher Education Council of Zimbabwe said in an interview.
“This means that we will, therefore, have about 15 universities in Zimbabwe. As you know some of them are however private entities run by churches, activist groups, while some are managed by financial institutions.”
The official said the university would be known as the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) and would be built in Harare.
“The university has already been given an operating licence and it only remains to be constructed and open its doors to prospective students.”
This is not the first time that a church has built a university in Zimbabwe. The Roman Catholic Church also has a facility where it offers various Arts programmes to students at discounted rates. The Seventh Day Adventist Church has the Solusi University just outside Bulawayo while the United Methodist Church runs Africa University in Mutare.
