Gutu Woman To Perform 140 Hrs For Baby Dumping

Gutu, February 16, 2014 – A woman from Matizha are in Gutu will perform 140 hours community service after she dumped her newly born baby in a maize field recently.

Mollen Chiguvi (28) appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini and pleaded guilty to the charges of exposing an infant.

Chiguvi told the court that she had to dump the baby because she had no recourses to look after the baby.

Agatha Gabriel who presented the State said on January 28, 2014 Chiguvi gave birth to a bouncing baby boy at Matizha Clinic and hatched a plan to abandon him.

After being discharged from the clinic, she did not go straight home but proceeded to Serima Mission with the intention of leaving the baby there but that plan did not materialise. On January 31, 2014 the accused went to Chatsworth clinic with the same intention of abandoning her baby.

Chiguvi then abandoned her child in a maize field near Chatsworth and she went home and the baby was discovered by the owner of the field Ellen Sibanda. She made a report to the Police and acting on a tip- off, the Police arrested the accused.
