Harare, September 11, 2015-A church service for the late former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) presenter of Mvengemvenge and Radio 2 Top 20 Lazarus Tembo was held at the Nyaradzo funeral parlour in Harare on Friday afternoon
Tembo’s body will be flown to Bulawayo on Saturday morning where he will be buried at West Park cemetery on Monday morning.
Scores of friends and relatives of the late versatile and trilingual DJ, newsreader and soccer commentator who succumbed to cancer of the blood three weeks ago after a long illness in Leicester in the United Kingdom praised Tembo for the way he displayed his charisma, talent and humility in different radio and television programmes which he presented.
Veteran broadcaster and former ZBC Controller of Radio Services John Masuku described Tembo as an all-rounder and close family friend who was a highly dependable and disciplined broadcaster and music promoter who profiled and uplifted many prominent musicians when he later joined Gramma Records as a media liaison executive.
Former Head of Radio 2 (now Radio Zimbabwe) when Tembo joined the ZBC, Victor Mhizha-Murira who later became the corporation’s Director of Human Resources described the former Jarzin Man and Radio 2 Top 20 anchor as a fine broadcaster who was a pleasure to work with since he could be assigned undertake different programme genres with ease.
“Lazzie was a born an entertainer and he was liked by all of us who shared the microphone with him at Mbare Studios” remarked former colleague Josephine Jenje-Mudimbu
Mourners are gathered at the Tembo family home at Cement Siding on the outskirts of Bulawayo.
Lazzie T, as Tembo was also known leaves behind his wife Edna and two children, Lewis and Nomalanga.
