Zuma was speaking in Pretoria after meeting representatives of financial institutions to discuss the impact of her department,s process of legalising thousands of Zimbabweans living in the country.
According to Dlamini-Zuma, the institutions which include banks would need the department to validate information and documents presented by Zimbabweans who had previously used fraudulent documents to receive their services.
The Minister said the outcome of the meetings would be communicated to her Zimbabweans counterparts soon. The Department of Transport has also started the process of investigating Zimbabwean immigrants who might have acquired driver,s licences fraudulently.
More than 250 000 Zimbabweans submitted their application for permits by the deadline of December 31 last year. The government refused to extend the documentation exercise saying the Zimbabweans were given enough time to submit their papers.
The exercise to issue permits to those who applied will take up to six months.Deportations of thousands who failed to apply for permits will only start after June. Its estimated that there are between 1.5 Million and 2 Million Zimbabweans living and working in South Africa the majority of them illegally.
