I Have No Stands In Masvingo – Chombo

By Tawanda Homba

Masvingo, January 30, 2014 – The Minister of Local Government,Public Works,Rural and Urban Development, Dr Ignatius Chombo has dismissed allegations that he is the one who is protecting Clemence Makwarimba outgoing Masvingo Rural chief executive officer from leaving office because he was favoured with some stands at Nemamwa.

Some sources were alleging that Chombo could have received stands from Makwarimba and therefore no longer has power to act against him.

Chombo however told the Mirror in an interview that he was not protecting Makwarimba, who retired in the middle of last year as CEO of Masvingo Rural and got all his terminal benefits but is refusing to leave office.

Chombo said Masvingo was not his home and he therefore did not have any stands at Nemamwa. He said he had no interest in Makwarimba’s case and the Minister of State for Masvingo,Kudakwashe Bhasikiti must decisively deal with the matter.

“I don’t come from Masvingo and there is no need for me to have a stand there.I have not received any stand from Makwarimba.Bhasikiti is the one who can deal with this matter,” said Chombo.

Many people are surprised that Makwarimba can defy Chombo and get away with it.Chombo has in the past fired many councils, councillors and council CEOs throughout the country without any difficult. His problem on Makwarimba has raised eyebrows.

Efforts to get a comment from Makwarimba were futile.
