Jub Jub Jail Sentence Reduced

The murder convictions of hip hop musician Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala have been set aside and changed to culpable homicide.

This was the result of their appeal against their conviction and sentences in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala have been serving 25-year jail terms in line with their initial sentences for murder. Their sentences have now been reduced to 10 years each.

In March 2010, Maarohanye and Tshabalala crashed their Mini Coopers into a group of school children in Soweto while allegedly drag racing.

They were under the influence of drugs at the time.

The crash killed four children and left two permanently brain damaged.
