Harare, July 26, 2016 – FORMER Zanu PF youth activist, Acie Lumumba on Tuesday engaged MDC-T politician Nelson Chamisa as his lawyer when he appeared before a Harare magistrate for insulting President Robert Mugabe.
Lumumba, real name William Mutumanje, is being accused if undermining President Robert Mugabe when he used the abusive f-word on the Zimbabwean leader.
The now Viva Zimbabwe leader was being represented by Harare lawyer Archie Mugiya.
However, the biggest surprise was a decision by the former Zanu PF politician to engage the MDC-T co-vice president to defend him.
Lumumba did not pick up his phone when repeated calls were made to him.
But Chamisa said he was only tasked by Lumumba to represent him for Tuesday’s court hearing.
“I just represented for him for the postponement of the matter today (Tuesday) and everything will be dealt with by a counsel of his choice,” he said.
Asked on what he had happened to Lumumba’s previous lawyer he said he was not in position to comment on other lawyers.
“I am not an authority to comment on other lawyers,” he said.
Lumumba is not the only Zanu PF former official to source for legal services from their former rivals.
Former Zanu PF Masvingo provincial affairs minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and Didymus Mutasa were also once represented in court by Tendai Biti, who is also leader of the opposition PDP.
NCA leader and lawyer Lovemore Madhuku has also represented a number of former Zanu PF stalwarts in the courts.
