Johannesburg March 21, 2014 – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Leader Julius Malema slated President Jacob Zuma while addressing a crowd of EFF and Pan Africanist Congress members gathered outside a Human Rights Day event the president was attending.
This comes a day after Malema laid criminal charges against Zuma at the Sunnyside Police Station in Pretoria following the release of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s probe into spending on Zuma’s private Nkandla residence.
Madonsela released the long-awaited report on Wednesday afternoon, finding that Zuma and his family benefitted from the upgrades and called on the president to account to Parliament within two weeks.
Malema said everyone must help him to correct the fact that he once supported Zuma.
“History has allowed us to correct the mess we created in 2009. This is a mess we aren’t proud of. We regret the day we supported this mess.”
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance also laid charges against the president at the Nkandla police station in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.
The charges against Zuma relate to the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act as well as defeating the ends of justice.
