Although the club has baeen trying to keep the appointment a secret, Mapeza has this whole week been seen at Gunners training ground.
Although Mapeza did not participate in the training sessions with assistant coach Tapfumayi Dodo taking the team through its paces, a source at the club revealed that the coach will officially resume his duties on Monday. This week was to formalise himself with the players and the environment at the 2009 Zimbabwe champions.
Mapeza who was in the company of Dodo did not deny the move but refused to shed more light referring Radio VOP to Gunners chairman Cuthbert Chitima. Chitima, however, could not be reached to give further details.
Mapeza replaces Moses Chunga who last month left the club in controversial circumstances after leading Gunners to their first ever league title. Chunga now has a new home at Shooting Stars.
Mapeza has not had a club since parting ways with Monomotapa at the beginning of the 2009 season. Mapeza left after guiding the club to the league championship.
The highly regarded Mapeza has been recruited to help Gunners make an impression in the Caf Champions League. The modest Harare club, are along with Dynamos representing Zimbabwe in Africa’s biggest club competition.
Mapeza has also had stint with the Zimbabwe national team as well as with the Young Warriors.
