Masvingo, September 30, 2016 – THE 2016 Masvingo Agricultural Show kicked off Thursday with focus centred on economic development.
The four-day event is also expected to tackle employment creation opportunities in light of company closures and loss of jobs in the province and the rest of the country.
Masvingo show society administrator Jane Marevesa however noted that cattle exhibition which had been suspended during the last two exhibitions following a foot and mouth outbreak will be back this year.
Provincial Minister of State, Shuvai Mahofa is expected to officially open the show on Saturday under the theme working towards economic development.
“The show is kicking off today (Thursday) and exhibitors already have their staff in place. We are also glad on the improvement we have seen as show society as more than 20 new exhibitors have registered with us this year. Almost all of our traditional exhibitors are also coming. I would also like to note that cattle exhibitions that had failed to take off due to the foot and mouth outbreak in the province will be there this year,” Marevesa said.
Masvingo Province was hit hard with drought in the last farming season which resulted in massive crop failure in most districts. Famers who focused on small grain products however managed to harvest enough to feed their families.
The show is closing on 2 October 2016.
