Mbeki To Help Fundraise For UZ Resuscitation

Mbeki will be guest of honour at a fundraising dinner to be held next Saturday at the UZ to raise money needed for educational projects at the country’s biggest university.
For the guests, dinner with Mbeki does not come cheap as the asking price is $ 200 per head with a dream of raising $20 million for the university by year end for university projects.
UZ has been struggling to get back on its feet after years of decline and a fall in educational standards.
Over the last decade it suffered from the exodus of essential teaching staff. Currently students’ hostels are inhabitable and the university has no running water and use boreholes and tankers.
The Metallurgy Department is closed due to lack of equipment and teaching staff. Despite the troubles UZ remains one of the best universities in Africa. It has produced over 60 000 Zimbabwean and foreign students since its inception in 1952.
