Nyika Growth Point, December 27, 2013-MDC-99 leader Job Sikhala and his family were involved in a serious accident when his car’s brakes failed and it flew down a slope gathering speed of up to 180 km per hour before overturning three times.
His wife and eight children have been taken to hospital while he said he sustained minor injuries. Sikhala said this morning :”l was involved in a serious accident at the Nyika slope area. The vehicle lost the braking system at the very slope area 2 kms from Nyika Growth Point and vehicle descending at a dangerous speed and clocked 180kms. I was trying to control the vehicle at such speed with sharp curves and the vehicle overturned 3 times.
“All my 8 kids who were with me and my wife are seriously injured. They were rushed to Silveria Mission Hospital in Bikita. I just sustained minor injuries and l am still in a shock how God’s hand rescued me from such a horrific accident. I am praying for my kids and wife to be rescued from the serious injuries they suffered. Pray for my family dear friends as l am rushing to Silveria Mission Hospital where my family has been taken to. I was on my way back to Harare after my Christmas holiday in my village in Masema, Gutu.”
Meanwhile, Rumbidzai Makumbe, the daughter of the late leading academic Professor John Makumbe, died in a car accident on Tuesday around 5 pm near Chivhu.
Rumbidzai who was a few months pregnant and husband Hillary were part of a two-car convoy travelling to Buhera, in a holiday that would have seen them also go to the Matopos in the Matabeleland Province.
According to Nehanda Radio, Rumbidzi’s mother is critically injured and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Avenues Clinic in Harare.
She suffered injuries to her arms and chest.
Rumbidzai is expected to be buried at Glen Forest on Saturday in Harare.
