MDC-M Deputy President Gibson Sibanda Dies

According to the party’s Bulawayo Province spokesperson Edwin Ndlovu said Sibanda died at his home in Illanda Low Density suburb early this morning.

“Yes  its  so sad the old man has  gone, he has  been battling with cancer  for some time. He had been to South Africa several times where he was receiving treatment”.

Sibanda was born in Filabusi Matebeleland South. He worked for the railways and was a trade unionist before going into politics as welfare secretary for Zapu.

He was the first vice-president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) in 1988 before serving as president from 1989.

He was a leading member of the initiative for the ZCTU to establish the original MDC in 2000, being unanimously elected as vice-President of that party at its first congress.
