Mixed Marriages Under The Spotlight

A cross section of the Zimbabwean society has expressed mixed feelings on the emergence of cross racial and cross cultural marriages.

Some people who spoke to the ZBC News denounced cross racial marriages, saying they compromise and dilute culture, at the same time bridge a gap between inlaws.

On the other hand, members of the Christian society have also upheld cross racial marriages, citing that marriage is a God ordained institution and there is nothing wrong when a man and a woman unite in holy matrimony regardless of their race and culture.

Attitude towards interracial marriages have changed dramatically and today in many countries it is common place and most do not even give it a thought.

Cross racial marriages have become a widespread phenomenon due to globalisation as people are transcending boundaries from one country to another.

At one time during the 17th century in the United States, marriage between white women and black men were prohibited and the law was extended to forbid marriage between Malaysians with blacks and whites.
