“Yes I can confirm that the motorcade was involved in an accident. It was fatal. We are still investigating,” police spokesperson, assistant commissioner Charity Charamba said.
“We will issue a statement once the investigations and the next of kin are informed.”
Mugabe travels in a huge motorcade which involves over 15 cars in full speed with motorcyles leading the way whenever he travels in the country. His close security are armed to the teeth with some carrying AK 47 assault vehicles.
In the past months a member of the army’s presidential guard died when a truck carrying the vehicle carrying the team burst a tire. In another incident a motorbike rider hit and killed a mentally disturbed man in Harare.
And in another incident one person was killed in Zvimba, Mugabe’s home area by the presidential unit motorcade.
The 88 year old’s motorcade uses sirens clearing vehicles out of it’s way while travelling at high speed whenever Mugabe travels. His aides are known to beat up people who disturb unknowingly the movement of his motorcade.
