Mugabe in Singapore
State media Sunday said Mugabe went to Singapore to check on his first daughter Bona.
“In a statement last night, the Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity said Cde Mugabe will during the visit, oversee post-graduate arrangements for his daughter Bona, who graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy degree last year.”
Bona’s enrolment in Hong Kong in 2009 to study resulted in the government in Hong Kong being criticised for allowing Mugabe’s child to study in that country despite that his father is under sanctions from the European Union and United States of America for rights abuses.
Bona (23) was said to have enrolled at the University of Hong Kong using an alias name. She enrolled at the height of Zimbabwe crisis before the formation of the coalition government by his father and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
Mugabe has been a regular visitor to Singapore and Asian countries which are ad hoc and not explained to ordinary people by his spokesperson. After several visits to Asia last year Mugabe’s spokesperson, George Charamba told the media that Mugabe went to have an eye cataract removed. The veteran leader’s trips to Asia were explained as follow ups or checkups after the eye cataract operation.
In the Wiki Leaks diplomatic cable dated June 2008 and written by James D. McGee, the former U.S. ambassador in Harare, Zimbabwe’s Central Bank governor Gideon Gono told the envoy that Mugabe had cancer that will lead to his death in three to five years.
“Gideon Gono, governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, told the ambassador … that President Robert Mugabe has prostate cancer that has metastasized and, according to doctors, will cause his death in three to five years,” the cable said.
