Harare, July 30, 2014-President Robert Mugabe has expressed concern over indiscipline by some senior Zanu PF party members who are holding clandestine meetings to buy support for them to get positions ahead of the congress.
In a statement issued by party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity, Rugare Gumbo this Wednesday evening after a Politburo meeting, President Mugabe warned the people to be wary of such in-disciplined and ambitious characters.
Mugabe said he is aware of such activities in the party leadership and some have even approached him with their ambitions for leadership at congress.
The President said the people know the characters of these in-disciplined leaders and warned them that the electorate cannot be cheated.Meanwhile, the dates for the holding of the Youth and Women’s League conferences have been brought forward.
After this Wednesday’s meeting, the party resolved that the Youth League conference be held from the 7th to the 10th of August while the Women’s League conference will take place from the 12th to the 15th of August.
The postponement comes hot on the heels of the request by the party’s Women’s League to elevate the First Lady, Grace Mugabe to the position of National Secretary for the organ.
The Youth League and some senior members in the party have hailed the move saying it will help curb factionalism which is threatening to tear the party apart.
President Mugabe noted that it is one year since Zanu PF‘s disputed victory in the July 31, 2013 harmonised elections, adding that to mark that day, he will be hosting a function at State House on Thursday at 14.30.
Among those invited to the function are Politburo members, parliamentarians, senators and Zanu PF provincial leadership and captains of industry.
