Murerwa who attended a Zanu (PF) politburo meeting last week has been cutting his ministerial duties due to ill health as he has been keeping a low profile. He was pictured by state media shaking hands with President Robert Mugabe attending the politburo meeting last week.
“Minister Murerwa went to South Africa this week for a medical check up. He has not been feeling well,” a government source said on condition of anonymity without naming the ailment the Minister is suffering from.
Murerwa who is a former Finance Minister is senator for Goromonzi constituency. He is one of the few senior government officials who have served in several government ministries since the 80’s in Mugabe’s government.
Zimbabwe’s senior government officials who include cabinet ministers have been shunning local health institutions which lack specialised equipment as well as medicines for South Africa’s medical facilities.
Last year the late Minister of Public Service Eliphas Mukonoshuro died in South Africa while receiving medical attention while Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe undergoes chemotherapy treatment in South Africa.
