Mutasa recently backed Mandiwanzira’s bid to challenge the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) legislator for Nyanga South Willard Chimbetete.
According to the Manica Post, a state-run weekly newspaper covering Manicaland Province, Mutasa, who is fighting to be recognised as the “Godfather” of Zanu (PF) politics in the province consecrated and presented Mandiwanzira to the Nyanga South electorate at a Zanu (PF) constituency coordination meeting held at Sedze Business Centre in Nyanga.
“What I want to tell you is that Cde Mutasa is in Nyanga South to help Supa in campaigning. I have heard people from this area saying Supa has delayed in announcing his candidature because they are ready to vote for him and if we are true cadres we should speak with one voice,” Mutasa said in his address at the meeting.
Mandiwanzira, the president of the black empowerment lobbyist, Affirmative Action Group, reportedly donated 400 chicks to some wards in the constituency and pledged to donate fuel to rehabilitate some roads.
Mandiwanzira is the second prominent journalist to venture into politics on a Zanu (PF) ticket. Former Financial Gazette deputy editor, Kindness Paradza contested and won the Makonde seat in Mashonaland West province to represent President Robert Mugabe’s notorious party in parliament before he was fired from the party.
