Navistar Directors Denied Bail

The three Navistar Insurance Brokers bosses facing charges of defrauding Air Zimbabwe of more than 5 million euros and US$800 000 have been denied bail by a Harare magistrate.

Givemore Nderere, Vukile Hlupo both (45) and Orten Mawire (60)’s stay at Harare Central Remand Prison and Holding Centre has been extended following denial of their bail application.

State prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira successfully pleaded with the court to deny bail to the three on the basis that they face serious offences which on conviction call for stiff penalties.

Mashavira contended that the trio’s release on bail was most unfavourable to the state as they were prone to flee to Europe, particularly the United Kingdom, and scuttle the extra territorial investigations to be conducted.

The presiding magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe said he was convinced by the strength of the state case coupled with the reasons proffered by Miss Mashavira that the trio is a flight risk and had no option but to remand them in custody pending trial.

The three will now appear for routine remand together with their co-accused former Air Zimbabwe bosses on the 4th of March.
