Mashakada said “the Zimbabwean economy should be all inclusive, shared and sustainable” while addressing delagates at the Zimbabwe Trade and Investment Conference at the Indaba Hotel-Fourways in Johannesburg.
“It is not enough stabilise the economy but even more we should strive to transform it and make sure that growth is shared” said Mashakada.
“As we develop we should carry the poor with us along and make sure that their lives also improves. Its time we move from an enclave economy where only 10 percent of our working population is in the formal economy while 90 percent is in the informal sector” added Mashakada.
“Our economy should be pro-poor and part of growth plan should be to create employment , enhance democratic developmental state, ensure food security and infrastructural development among others” said Mashakada articulating part of his Medium Term Plan.
Mashakada is regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s best economic minds and he appeals across party lines in Zimbabwe’s polarised enviroment.
The Zimbabwe Trade and Investment Conference is graced by among others prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai with his deputy Thokozane Khupe, ministers Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma, Nelson Chamisa among others.
