Outspoken Rugare Gumbo Expelled

Suspended Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Rugare Gumbo has been expelled.

The party’s National Chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo, who is now doubling as the party spokesperson, made the announcement after the Central Committee meeting in Harare today, saying the decision to expel Cde Gumbo was arrived at during the meeting.

“In a late but important development, suspended Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity in the Politburo, Rugare Gumbo has been expelled by the Central Committee,” said  Khaya Moyo.

Cde Gumbo was handed a 5-year suspension last month for allegedly being among a faction plotting to unseat President Robert Mugabe, but the Central Committee resolved that the party cadre be expelled.

Khaya Moyo did not say anything on Enock Porusingazi, who was suspended together with  Gumbo.

Gumbo has of late been under fire for plotting the ouster of President Mugabe, together with faction leader and Vice President Joice Mujuru, National Secretary for Administration  Didymus Mutasa,  Nicholas Goche, and ousted Mashonaland East Chairman Ray Kaukonde, among others.

Although not suspended or expelled, other coup plotters’ political life seem to be heading to an end, as they have lost their Central Committee membership.

Dr Mujuru, Mutasa and Goche did not attend yesterday’s Politburo and today’s Central Committee meetings that signalled the start of the 6th Zanu PF National People’s Congress.
