The employee’s UN-marked car was attacked inside a parking lot in an upscale Abidjan neighbourhood, the spokesperson says.
Spokesperson Hamadoun Toure said the employee was a civilian staffer and not a peacekeeper. His SUV bearing the UN logo was set on fire by supporters of Laurent Gbagbo inside the parking lot of a popular shopping mall in the II Plateau neighbourhood.
Laurent is the country’s ex-president who is refusing to leave office. Gbagbo demanded that the UN mission leave the country because the UN certified the results of last year’s election showing Gbagbo had lost to his longtime rival.
