Perfect Start for Zimbabwe Football Teams

Caf Champions League representatives FC Platinum hammered Swaziland’s Green Mambas 4-2 while Hwange could not be left behind as they thumped Zanzibar’s Jamhuri 3-0 in the preliminary round of the Caf Confederations Cup.

Other Zimbabwean Caf Confederations Cup representatives Motor Action pulled off a one-all draw against South Africa’s Black Leopards who have Zimbabwean Sunday Chidzambwa in their technical team.

The good away results give the Zimbabwean teams an advantage ahead of their return leg in Zimbabwe in two weeks . FC Platinum is using Mandava Stadium as their home ground while Hwange use the Colliery both of which have been upgraded to suit the requirements of the Confederation of African football.

Motor Action has a choice of venue whether to use Rufaro Stadium or the National Sports Stadium in their home matches.

The three clubs are playing in the preliminary stages of the African football as they are not ranked. If they succeed they will be joined by Dynamos who do not feature in the preliminary round since they have a high ranking in African football

The 1998 Caf Champions League finalists will play Macalbane of Mozambique  in the first round. A win for the Zimbabweans will see them face defending Africa Champions, Esperance of Tunisia in the second round.

Zimbabwe has two slots in each of the two club competitions because of Dynamos’s impressive record in the Caf Champions League. The team has been to the final, the semifinals, and has qualified for the mini league stage on a number of occasions. Other countries have one team in each of the competitions.
