PG Hodzi says Zacc, judiciary, state, media captured by cartels

PROSECUTOR General Kumbirai Hodzi on Monday said cartels in Zimbabwe had captured State and private institutions to the extent of making it almost impossible to bring them to book.

Hodzi said cartels were getting protection from institutions that should normally be fighting corruption.

He fingered Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), media as well as the Judiciary Service Commission as being captured by cartels.

Speaking in Bulawayo at a capacity building workshop on anti-corruption for the POLAD Economic Thematic Committee, Hodzi said such protection had made corruption in Zimbabwe uncontrollable.

The statement by the PG coincides with allegations by recently suspended Zanu PF youth leaders, Godfrey Tsenengamu and Lewis Matutu, that Kudakwashe Tagwirei and other prominent businessman were irredeemably corrupt.

At the Press conference, the former Zanu PF youth leaders accused Tagwirei of using his financial muscle to obtain government contracts across ministries, in the process shutting out competition.
