Plane Stuck On Runway At OR Tambo International Airport

JOHANNESBURG-October 26, 2015-The wheels of a passenger jet have failed at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport – causing slight delays.

The jet’s undercarriage failed while it was on the runway. The aircraft is stuck on the tarmac.

Officials say the incident has resulted in flight delays of around 15 minutes

An anonymous caller told News24 that it was a British Airways Boeing 737 and its main wheel had collapsed.

“OR Tambo is currently using an alternative runway to ensure flights are able to leave the airport. For safety and security reasons we will have to close that runway [where the aircraft is],” says Airports Company SA spokesperson Colin Naidoo.

At this stage, it was not known how the aircraft came to get stuck on the runway.

He said passengers would need to contact their respective airlines to check on their flight status.
