Popular Book Cafe, Mannenburg to Reopen In Harare
They were close about four months ago because the popular venues were allegedly delving into politics and not the plays and acts they are meant to provide to their audience.
There were some political plays hosted at The Book Cafe and Restaurant as well as reading of unpopular books hated by senior government officials especially the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).
Such acts that should bounce back include Zimbabwe’s Music Ambassador, Oliver Mtukudzi, jazz great Dudu Manhenga, singer Chiwoniso Maraire, as well as regular readings from books such as from the late Dambudzo Marechera as well as shows from many popular but sometimes controversial musicians in Zimbabwe.
The Book Cafe and Restaurant and Mannenburg Restaurant were very popular among the educated including diplomats posted to Zimbabwe.
There have not been any public reasons given why the popular facilities were closed.
